Our approach to designing web sites

We follow a very methodical process in the creation of web site , here is a simple description of our process…what I like to call the 4 D’s

Phase 1 : Define
During this stage we learn from our clients the full scope of their project.

  • What do they want to achieve with the website?
  • Who is the target audience?
  • Who is the competition?

Armed with this information a tactical plan is developed and a full proposal produced to proceed with the project.
This phase of any project is always FREE

Phase 2 : Design
Keeping in mind usability and good web practices a polished concept design is created. This is a collaborative phase where client’s feedback is used to refine the design and helps us “home in” on the optimimal “winning” concept design.
Our tools of chice for the design phase are Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Phase 3: Develop
The “pictures” created in the design phase comes to life in the development phase of the project. The designs are coded to be understood by web browsers and undergo strict testing to ensure cross browser compatibility. Any functionailty assocaited with a web site is added during this stage.

Phase 4: Deploy
Once the site is complete it is ready to be launched online. The site is uploaded to a hosting account and publicised to the world.

Web Design Projects: Testimonials

I have had some nice compliments of the last couple of weeks for two of the sites I have lauched this year.

The first was for The Rockwood and came from Nathan Shurtleff of RetirementCommunity.com

nice site design…I have seen quite a few websites geared toward seniors and The Rockwood is one of the best, nice color, good layout and most important… easy to navigate.”

The Senior Vice President of the Rockwood agreeed:

“I also certainly agree that you have done a fabulous job with the website…we have gotten many compliments on it as well.”

Then today a nice testimonial from Loomis Bros:-

So far, we’ve had good response to our new website. Thanks so much for all of your help and patience!

Happy clients make me a happy web designer!

New web site for Commercial Laundry equipment supplier Loomis Bros

Launched today is our latest web design project, the re-design of a site for Loomis Brothers.

We developed a completely new look and feel which gives the site more appeal and improves the user experience. The navigation and copy is organised in sections relevant to the users, from those interested in Commercial Laundry system, Self service laundries or Parts and Service.

The site also features a custom blog allowing the client to easily update with news and events.

New web site for St Louis company: Throttlenet

I have been working with Throttlenet for nearly 7 years now and in that time have helped them create a brand image for the company though the design of letterheads, business cards, powerpoint templates, trade show displays, interface design and web site design.

Today sees the launch of a new company web site.

On a technical note for those of you requiring a bit of a “geek fix” the site was designed and coded as a fluid site. This means that whatever the size of your browser window the site will horizontally fill it. If the browser window is resized the site will adjust accordingly.

Adding “search” to a web site to improve navigation

We launched a new web site for St Louis based Citizen of Modern Transit (CMT) about a year ago. Since that time the site has grown to such an extent that the original navigational structure was not opperating efficiently.

As with all of our sites, we always design and develop so that if changes are need further down the line they can be easily accomodated and improving the navigation of the CMT site was no exception.

We implement two major chnages to the site to facilitate the user experience The first was the addition of drop down menus enabling vistors to see at a glance the menu choices for each category. The second was the addition of a Google custom search. …another great free widget by Google. The custom search can be configure to search and return results from the entire world side web, a selection of site or just one site… our choice in this case. The non profit status of CMT also meant that the search results could be displayed without ads.

Google provides all the code so the search function can be easily intergrated into the look feel of any web site.

New web site for St Louis retirement Community

“The Rockwood” is a retirement community based in Old Webster Groves, St Louis and they contacted us about six weeks ago looking to get a website online ASAP. The site went live today

www.therockwood.com

The site features an important usability option allowing a visitor to easily adjust the size of the type on the page. This is particularly important considering the typical demographic of a visitor to the site.

We welcome your feedback on the site

New Web Design Clients

We have picked up two new clients this week, both for web site design projects.

The first is Frontenac Builders, a builder of luxury homes in and around Frontenac. Prior to starting the project they gave me a tour of some of thier properties and they are spectaluar. We are creating a web site which will engage the high end end market they serve.

Our second new client is “The Rockwood” a retirement community located in Webster Groves
